Usage Summary

Estimated annual use:

Estimated electricity use per year:

How is the cost calculated?

The calculator converts watts to kilowatts and multiplies that by the hours used. This gives estimated electricity consumption in kWh.

Daily kWh = (Watts ÷ 1,000) × Hours used
Daily cost = Daily kWh × Electricity price

If the device's power draw changes during use, a measured average wattage will usually give a better estimate than its maximum rating.

Frequently Asked Questions

What wattage should I enter?

Use the appliance's rated or measured average power. A plug-in energy monitor can give a more realistic figure for appliances whose power changes during use.

Can I use this for devices with thermostats?

Yes, but rated wattage may overestimate cost if the device cycles on and off. Measured average power is better.

Does this include standing charges?

No. Standing charges are fixed daily charges and are not caused by a single appliance, so the calculator focuses on energy used.
