UK Electricity Unit Rate Guide
Your unit rate is the price charged for each kilowatt-hour of electricity you use.
The calculator defaults to 26.11p per kWh, the Ofgem average electricity unit rate for a standard variable tariff paid by Direct Debit from 1 July to 30 September 2026. Your own tariff may be different.

If your tariff is 26.11p/kWh, using 1 kWh of electricity costs 26.11 pence before considering any separate standing charge.
Why should you use your own tariff?
Tariffs vary by supplier, region, payment method and product. Time-of-use tariffs can also charge different rates at different times. Your bill or supplier account is therefore the best source for your own calculation.
Why don't the calculators include standing charge?
A standing charge is paid per day regardless of whether a particular appliance is used, so attributing it to one appliance would be misleading. EnergyCalc UK focuses on the variable energy used by the appliance.
