How is the cost calculated?

Rated power in watts is converted to kilowatts, then multiplied by the time used in hours. That gives an estimated kWh figure for one use.

kWh per use = (Watts ÷ 1,000) × (Minutes ÷ 60)
Cost per use = kWh per use × Electricity price

This is a simple estimate. Appliances with thermostats or variable power may draw less than their maximum rated wattage for part of the time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does filling the kettle with more water cost more?

Usually yes, because heating a larger volume of water requires more energy and often takes longer.

Where can I find kettle wattage?

It is usually printed on the rating label under the kettle or base, and often appears in the product specification.

Why is this an estimate?

Kettles switch off automatically and real heating time varies with water volume, starting temperature and efficiency.
